Hecate & Her Dogs — The Moon 8/16/22 by Michelle Embree

The Moon is both beloved as a romantic light in the night sky and feared as a powerful mesmer that can drive a person mad or bring werewolves out in ordinary men. The word lunatic is derived from the word luna, meaning moon in Latin.

the life we do not live still lives within us

When we see The Moon in a reading we will do well to look toward any mixed feelings or mixed set of circumstances in our lives. Contradictory emotions can pertain to specific relationships or choices but could be an ongoing aspect of our existential life. Keep in mind that no matter what paths we have chosen to follow, the life we do not live still lives within us and is not necessarily something we can adequately resolve.

The Moon is sometimes associated with a Greek goddess known as Hecate who is likely found at a crossroads or under The Moon with her two infamous hounds wandering the night. She is said to become a bit wolfish herself at times. Hecate has no fear of the dark where she searches for souls who might need guidance to find their way.

Hecate is prepared to meet what comes her way on its own terms. Her dogs are kind and domesticated or fierce and wild depending on which manner suits the situation. Our own nature is equally versatile and knowing when to engage our extremes is an intuitive skill we hone as we age, not a rupture in the psyche.

May we allow contradiction.
