The Disruption Generator was a living experiment and theoretical oracular device. It started with this question:
What can true randomness do once installed into the divination thought form?
The Disruption Generator aimed for outliers and the unknown. Every word was chosen by a random word generator, meditated upon, interpreted into whatever the word may inspire visually, and made into a component. This component will function much like a single card Tarot pull, useful for simple questions and conundrums. I came up with my own personal interpretation for the word and image in writing but suggested that you find your own meaning in the components. 6 months ago we started this long journey together, this strange trip to explore the relationship between the random and the oracular. I want to take this chance to thank everyone who has come along with us, spread the word, or gave much needed encouragement. Your kind words were heard and very much appreciated.
As I’ve been mentioning since the beginning of The Disruption Generator, I envisioned the system as a bibliomantic oracular tool. That idea had not yet been fully realized, instead relying on these daily releases of what I’m now calling “Components” to utilize the divinatory properties of the system. Soon that will no longer be the case.
Monday sees the release of the paperback version of The Portable Disruption Generator and the pre-order launch of the deluxe, over-sized, hardcover Disruption Generator which will start shipping in August. I’ll be talking about all this in much greater depth on Monday, in the first installment of Disruption Generator: Disassembled.
Other than the official launchpad for the pre-order and paperback, The Disruption Generator: Disassembled will be a 6 week exploration of the origins and inspirations of the system. In it, I will be discussing how my own work brought me to this project, why this system is a book instead of a deck, and various other topics associated with the Disruption Generator. I learned a great deal as the weeks rolled by during this project and I can’t wait to share with you the things I learned.
