About I SUFFER ALCHEMY, the new novella:
To house my broken voice. I present to you a novella called I Suffer Alchemy. I regard it as a lifeboat, a raft I wrote to sail evenly amidst a sea of what comes next during the first lockdown.
I wanted to write about something fantastic that occurs in the mundane involving misadventure, auto-biographical events with experimental cut-up techniques, allowing flourishes of surrealism to haunt a simple, linear story. the narrative to become the ambience of the protagonist’s feelings – transforming the writing and style of the story, sometimes hallucinatory with psychedelia for colourful storytelling.
A particular readership for I Suffer Alchemy is required. Boisterous language, social realism, flawed characters, cowardly, brutally honest, golden-hearted anti-heroic experiencing life in unique ways, surreal aspects, not too much but balanced between the dramas presented.
There are bursts of sexual imagery, violence, and beautiful prose transcending an unusual spirituality. The people who buy this are the fringe dwellers, semi-vanilla, deviants who appreciate the beats, Bukowski, Fante, Brett-Easton Ellis, Irvine Welsh, George Mackay Brown, Raymond Carver.

Suffering Alchemy.
A series following the sleepy, debauched semi-vanilla Kirk, transcending an unusual spirituality between trying to figure life through messy mistakes, failed relationships, poor work ethic, pursuits of the irrational, explorations into the sub-conscience feral hyperactive brain with his sex drive and lust for a mundane strange adventure.
The first in the series is I Suffer Alchemy.
A soft-focus psychadelic misadventure.
2005.
Something isn’t right with Kirk travelling overseas from Scotland to meet Mia in Indiana – they found each other online via a chat room.
An Omni-presence haunting him, fractal glitches appear. A figure blips in and out of existence.
Is this a breakdown, the drugs or something more?
It’s not a love story, it’s almost a road adventure, nearly a ghost story. It could be a family drama. Sometimes it’s fiction, sometimes it’s not.
