Brigid & The Craft — Temperance 8/9/22 by Michelle Embree

Temperance 14
Temperance is dynamic, she is the tension within all forms of balance. In this depiction of Temperance, she has one foot on the earth and one foot in the water. She creates from a position informed by material possibility, ethics, and the needs of emotional life. Her balance is intuitive, but it is based in wisdom she gained through effort. The kind of alchemy this figure makes is born from a talent for observing potential turned into a practice of applying the insight she gains.
will is what creates
Temperance can be associated with the Celtic Goddess Brigid; patron of healing, poetry and smithcraft. She watches over the craft aspect of trade work and magic work. In all of our endeavors meant to last, we learn and apply techniques that we refine over time. Brigid empowers the acts and tools of trade, of craft, of magic with energy and protection. In the figure of Temperance we see what might look impossible, but the pictograph is a reminder that our focused will is what creates the seemingly magickal or the magickal itself. It really doesn’t matter.
There is reason as well as rhyme.
Brigid is a powerful figure in Irish history. She has played a number of roles and carried many names as her story has been told down through the centuries.  She has experience with the tensions in balance from her intimacy with living out roles that are sometimes contradictory. It is a matter of knowing when to apply that which is out of character or meanders from generally agreed upon praxis. There is reason as well as rhyme.  May we fortify the actions of both dedication and innovation.
