It’s amazing how quickly we’ve become friends, let alone how fast RUUNE is becoming a staple of the local music and occult scene since moving to Portland from Boston this year. We are undoubtedly similar as fervent creators and conjurors, as well as had similar trajectories; once tirelessly-touring musicians, now folklore obsessed practitioners of the Woo. But RUUNE has an enigmatic soul very much their own; as a Reiki healer, Tarot Diviner and Chaos Magician, Ruune’s unique gift is that of making people feel “good” by being “kind” – whether its metaphysically or interpersonally, they’re always beaming with a Cheshire smile and an inventive energy.
Ruune’s magickal outlook is especially unique as it advances yesteryear’s “cyberpunk” aesthetics and expands them into a modern magickal language using the symbology of video games: They cast and conjure code like a pixelated sorcerer in the side-scrawling 8-bit epic that is their rich and wondrous life.
Also, like I, RUUNE creates audio-sigils – concept records that are imbued with magickal minutiae to create a hyper-world all their own. Their newest is NEPTUNE in BABYLON (Our 12/28) and I might have cracked the code on that title’s origin in this very episode.
