This transmission was a nightmare to cobble together—not because of any of the subject matter directly (although I’m sure the combined eclipse resonances discussed carry some blame), and not because of any prodcuction issues in creating its segments—but because of the tundra of confluences (beyond just the eclipses) and the heavy somatick staticks abound bore a sore stasis. It was tethered together on the nape of a new head’s growth, and it may be discernable through the ramshackle technomantik issues apparent in the final draft.

Amidst sacrificing a 5-year hard-won atmosphere into boxes and trunks fit for bigger and brighter while punching the malkuthian timeenergy captital-suckage of a tireless work/life balance is reason enough for the silence as of late, but I couldn’t simply arrange this bric-a-brac episode together without some form of mercurian grump-glitch throwing a bone at every plan laid. Using everything else outside my usual tools and talismans proved quite the feat, but this is but the growing pains of the headless. Still a wild body be-bopping and jigging in arrhythmic meter while the new head grows—no mouth to tooth a scream but a whole lotta leg to run ragged even still. And we got here, didn’t we?

I call this a Living Film Score because it has been a rollicking soundtrack that illuminates the Noirs (or metaphysical darkened corners) of the day, and ignites them Neon. Perhaps, you too, will allow this breathing and churning sound magick to brighten the mundane in your own film lore.

All musick heard was performed live & recorded live to 4 track cassette tape. Because it is recorded live and on cassette tape, and because everything is improvised, sound quality may vary! But I exalt the warts and all as these rituals are vulnerable exorcisms.

This "Living Lore Film Score" was composed of two completely improvised DIM SESSIONS (or Audiomancy Rituals) performed and recorded on 12/24 & 12/25 utilizing a new ritual setup. These gusts of creative abandon evoke the PROSPECTRE from the Hauntomancy Workings of HAUNT MANUAL by marrying the SPECTRE ∴ ASPECTRE and all that came from 2023's raucous sound magick works!

Why, oh, why care about such outmoded technologies?

I aim to marry true communion with the thirdmind of neither analog, either/or digital in my audiomantic works, BUT BOTH with intentional and ritualistic means– free from digital sequencing or using samples of any kind outside my own custom ones made from my somatic creating. I’m not going full Steve Albini as I still believe in the DAW as a magickal tool, but I will be utilizing the digital audio workspace only for distribution, audio cleanup and mixing / mastering — largely keeping its infinite ease to “create” at bey, as the easing of many of rough and tumble processes of recording and songwriting, let alone audiomancy and podcasting, have fallen victim to indistinguishable and dishonest bores of same-y-ness.

Staring at a computer screen to easily non-linear edit a cut-up of stock samples or auto-generating noise all have their place within the umbrella of audiomancy, just not with me! It’s easy to make something clean and standard! I believe true audiomancy lies within the somatic experience — the abandonment of expectation, and the invocation and celebration of human error — to conjure my personal communion with the self and the other… so… Everything is performed live (aside from my haunted 70’s analog rhythm machine, Herbert, and custom programming played from a Korg Drum Machine) – each sonick #musick #soundsigil is #improvised utilizing only #glossolalia to channel “words” where there were never any! It has been my most used techno-magickal tool since decoding my hauntomancy workings, such as the Prospectre Ritual, since.

It is rare that this analog/digital daemon dips into the software pool of occult tools, but this one is as simple and as extraordinarily useful without impeding many processes that are often sacrificed in technological magicks by their lonesome. It could be argued that the long process of equating the words with paper and long-maths is a deeply held praxis, and to that I agree, however, it is simply a tool for me within a barrage of majorly physical processes within my workings. In air for some body 93 Up chuck? Safe “In the air for some body” is perhaps a question? And the answer is 93 (KEATS ROSS). “Up Chuck” (99) also correlates to DAKOTA SLIM (99) - my musical moniker for decades and a heteronym often used to commune via audiomancy. This almost reads like a confirmation of who is reaching out to them. Through these Haunt Manual workings, I often venerate MEDJED (99) the Egyptian bardo-jumper as a folkloric vessel for the workings. “Safe” (49) could signify the KEY (49) or CROWN (49) bestowed to the communion of KEATS ROSS, DAKOTA SLIM and MEDJED. At face value, the Prospectre could also be simply attesting that communion with KEATS ROSS (93) or DAKOTA SLIM (99) is a SAFE (49) venture. 4D Soul! “4D Soul” (41) could be the explanation of the Prospectre itself, for the fourth dimension is in fact TIME (93) which further illustrates a prospect of KEATS ROSS (93) I am communicating with! The HAUNT MANUAL anarchic lexicon thus far:

Hauntomancy is my praxis that mixes audiomancy (sound or musick sorcery) and other magickal means to hauntologically e/invoke the ghosts of past-selves for varying intentions.
These Hauntomancy workings are usually done in rituals I have termed “Dim Sessions” – a long practiced audiomancy ritual to “Dim The Tzim-Tzum” or help diminish the contraction of the preternatural that creates our perceivable reality.
These Dim Sessions are performed with carefully chosen talismans and instrumentation called “Sceptres” specific to their invocation intention. These are my vajra, my charged instruments of application. These are performed in my musickal and magickal space called “The Dimming Room.”
The first working, The Spectre Working, (Sine Wave Serpents) called on the self of 2017 – a magickal year of birth that fortified my many current passions using instruments (or Sceptres) from 2017 to call-forth my 2017 self.
The Aspectre Working (Disolver Eco Resonar) is a Dim Session that charged and e/invoked an aspect of self I have long sought to get back – the aspect of a creative abandon free from judgement and expectation- a personage I haven’t felt since I was young. This e/invocation was intentionally not year-specific as with Spectre working.
This 3rd ritual, the Prospectre Working (Sever Tether Revelator) is a Dim Session that charged and e/invoked a supposed prospect of self, neither-either-or the past or present, a thirdscene for what may-be. This working utilized radically different Sceptres (instruments) to commune with cassette tape recordings of my voice in the past speaking with a Spirit Box while performing with drums, glossalilia, guitar and more.

More about the PROSPECTRE ritual:

EVERYTHING WAS PERFORMED LIVE. In the beginning I play a cassette tape of me asking questions to the spiritbox whilst channeling some Max Roachisms on a drum set to churn the psychic gas – this was an experiment of the hauntological prisms of a past self communing with the OTHER while I remained anchored in the present with reactive performance. The HQ Audio mix has my cassette recordings of the ritual sync’d to the full, unedited recording – however, tape speeds vary. This ritual was performed using a spiritbox , drumset, baritone electric guitar, vocals, looping and glossolalia – nothing planned, everything improvised as with all Dim Sessions. This working will be decoded utilizing the ALW Cipher (as newly anointed AGENT 333 of LISTENING POST ALPHA) and available via HAUNT MANUAL soon. Dimming Room Ritual Set-Up The video documentation of the ritual used on-camera projections, experimental lighting and a milieu of instruments new to the liminalstream Dim Session format; unfortunately, the footage is simply too dark to see what’s happening musickally. No matter, I decided to conjure some cut-up videomancy utilizing an array of psychedelic and hypnagogic personal and collaborator footage (skull animations by Logan Ford) so that the HQ audio mix of this ritual is tethered appropriately. No audio was edited out of the entire ritual – everything you hear was as it was – with some ghostly tape schisms of cassette recordings of this ritual mixed in. The true videomantic parallel lies in the unearthed footage I found of me deconstructing and burning my altar 5 years ago (you can read about the ritual here: https://wethehallowed.org/audiomancy-the-night-thief/ ), right after exalting the name REVEL ROSZ and the bounties of 2017. I don’t burn antiques often, just the ones that have so much of my psychical detritus imprinted on them that were already broken to begin with. The Green Mushroom Project is teaming up with the We the Hallowed occult art and media magick collective WE THE HALLOWED to bring you “Fuck Around and Find Out 2: Audio Offerings of Magical Sovereignty from The Green Mushroom Project and We the Hallowed”- our first ever digital mixtape, coming this Fall!

We are now looking for submissions!

This will be a non-profit labor of love, with the goal of providing a collection of audio offerings which have been organized according to aesthetic and made available for free digital download.

What can I submit?

Anything that can be a HQ playable digital audio file (WAV). This includes: music, song, spoken word, audio rituals, etc. There is no specific theme other than that it should relate to The Green Mushroom Project and/or magical stuff you fuck around with.

Entry guidelines:

Entries must purvey your personal creative/magical praxis. Obviously, this could mean various things! However, it must be audible and include modulation of some type (no John Cage silences or unending one-tones).
Five min. 23 sec. time limit. Please submit tracks which are 00:05:23 or shorter in length.

All entries must include:

A title
A description of the work (is it a song, a sigil, automatic writing read aloud?)
The name that you would like to be credited with

Through the sinew of 22-23, I created and casted “ASPECTRE” under the moniker ECTOGASM. The music was recorded and performed as a live-streamed audiomancy ritual for my Hauntomancy workings (as explored in my Haunt Manual). I decided to clean it up and create an unrealized film score; I named the tracks utilizing various cut-ups of my literary works and ideas. My closing audiomantic ritual (“Dim Session”) for the soon-to-be-released Haunt Manual chapter (and conclusion of “Sine Wave Serpents”) was performed this week. The mechanics of instrumentation (talismans) utilized for the improvised set, like all prior, are deeply intentional and correlate to the hauntological workings professed in the chapter’s innards. This is why all ritual scores for the Haunt Manual audio chapters have been so radically different. This one utilizes lo-fi cassette manipulation, an old casio keyboard and a live-programmed drum machine to match the human error integration with automaton spits and spurts of my own overarching developments.

This recent musical experiment reminded me of the want to create a channeled lo-fi electronic and film-score-centric project entitled ECTOGASM (I reserved the name and its bandcamp years ago- which further proves the hauntomancy made manifest by bridging synapses long forgotten!) I also have been inspired to utilize these Dim Sessions to conjure audiomantic records by turning these improvised sets into the muscular skeletons of formal albums, but more on that later…

∴ Intro

I am haunted.

I find myself in a static stasis, reverberating in place. Like the Tower Card, it’s as if I’m always exploding foundations and rebuilding in a constant loop. I often compare myself to the Dharma Bum, a beat-ific idea of anarchic freedom, snickering at the rubble and ash beneath, never tied to what came before. But the thing is, I am haunted. I am haunted by extremes – whether it‘s being an aloof instigator of a creative community, or a dogma-less routine-driven magician. I have never given proper communion to this ghost, this tether to all things pragmatic and artistic, this innate contradiction within all that I do.

I would balk and run from memory, and find myself arrested as to where and how to move forward with nothing truly gained. In hindsight, it’s an old tale about doomed repetition. But I know this ghost simply yearns to be both, or something different altogether. How do I commune with this specter of self? How do I find the “third mind” of energetic revelation between the opposites I find myself forever wrestling. How do I, as a spontaneous creative, become a stable magician? Is it possible?

The past few months I caught a whiff of being in front of the oncoming Tower. I can see the revolutions of self before me, whether it be behaviors and actions, or environmental interactions. Where will I be next year? Will anything be resolved? Will I continue to churn and burn through habitual sabotage and struggle? Perhaps it is time to finally consort the elements that birthed my contradictory ghost.
