Howdy Haunts,
Had a few minutes before heading to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery to share some photos and news about my current Los Angeles trip.
Yesterday I got in a bit early than I was expecting, so I had two hours to kill before I could pick up my rental car. I walked around the Gateway area and came up with some tenets for my 4 day trip:
-
Every plan made won’t be actualized until I’m there
-
Be loose with expectations in seeing folks; this is a meditative solo sojourn
-
Learn to live by the whim and follow intuition
-
This solo excursion is the epilogue to the first volume of Haunt Manual, so document!
My rental car was a relatively cheap affair, so I allowed “dealer’s choice” as far as vehicle. And what I got could be described as the antithesis of my personal fancies: A Turbo Red Dodge Charger. I laughed as I picked it up and thought to myself how hilarious it was to be zipping around town in such a ridiculous car!
I had made tentative plans with friend, author and artist Derek Hunter, to visit the Psychical Research Society, or Manly P. Hall’s beautiful “Haunted House,” as I had never been there and their library is only open to the public Thursday and Friday for short hours. It was absolutely lovely; brilliant in its Art Deco-cum-beach-ified-old-Hollywood structure and nestled in the whimsical Los Feliz area. Derek showed me around while I perused their bookstore, auditorium and array of Manly P. Hall artifacts.
The library was an absolute dream. Derek studied some historic Bard texts, and I did a few readings with his Austin Osman Spare tarot deck. After he left, I grabbed my notebooks and stayed for another few hours manically scribbling notes from various texts concerning Angels, Symbols & the Sefirot.
Photo uploads are being real persnickety via Patreon, so I’ll probably create a gallery link and share all of them with you sometime soon as there is quite a bit more to share.
I’m off to Hollywood Forever cemetery for an introspective morning. Tonight, I see family I haven’t seen in years. There’s a lot to say about that, too.
More soon & HAUNT ON!
