The item we’ll be doing a deep dive with this week is:
#56: PIGEON
Like everything else in BOTTOMLESS BAG, this item depends greatly on personal interpretation. Some people might view PIGEON as a pest and some might view it as a welcome companion. It’s going to be a constant refrain in this section that your mileage may vary.
My description was “A feathered messenger.” I chose this because I have always liked the idea of the carrier pigeon. The idea that people would take these birds and train them to be couriers amazes me to no end. Imagine the sheer amount of patience and empathy one would need to get these birds to do such a complex task.
Maybe the pigeon would read as a message carried by unexpected sources, if following that interpretation?
Do you picture pigeons as benign avians being fed bread crumbs from a park bench, quietly pecking away at their charitable dinner? Could PIGEON then mean serenity or finding the calm in nature?
Perhaps all you see is a rodent that drops shit over everything? PIGEON would then be a very unwelcome draw.
This right here is the main idea behind MUNDANE MAGIC. It’s finding the occult and luminous behind each and every thing around you. It is quite the magical act to find guidance in a simple pigeon, It’s my hope that BOTTOMLESS BAG will be able to do the same for other everyday items in your life.
